Hello Dmitry,
I belive there is a level difference between XLR and RCA but regarding the quality of the signal i will have to investigate and get back to you.
It should not be a big difference just by looking on the service manual but again we will investigate and get back to you.
Best regards
Christian

Hello Dmitry,
I need to correct some information regarding the A33.2, it is not a fully balanced amplifier it uses a OPAMP to convert
to unbalanced signal we have never seen one fail, so in your case to
have possibly two OPAMPS fail at the same time
is extremly unlikely.
From what i can see after investigating our PRE30 there is a 6dB difference between XLR out and RCA out.
However when the volume on PRE30 are set close to 0dB gain (on our unit it was 47 for RCA and 53 for XLR) we fed it with
0,500Vrms the output showed 0,501Vrms for RCA and 0,515Vrms for XLR at
respective volumes. XLR then has 0,008% noise
while RCA has 0,020% noise.
Since we do not have a A33.2 here i cannot give you similar information.
The signal path that are used on a PRE30 has a OPAMP to make RCA signal path balanced. Otherwise it has the same signal
path as XLR inputs. Meaning signal quality issues found on XLR shuold
also be present on RCA.
However on the A33.2 it is the other way around the XLR has the OPAMP circuitery. Meaning If there is a signal quality
issue on A33.2 with only XLR input the OPAMP could be the cause. Again
we have never changed a OPAMP on a A33.2 so
it is highly unlikely.
But if you prefer the RCA connection over XLR, why not use that instead. Some people prefer turntables over CDs, while
other prefers SACD. Sometimes we are focusing to much on specification
that we forget to choose what simply sounds
best.
I also understand that you may worry that your units may be malefunctioning but from what you explain we do not think
that is the case. Since there is a difference between using XLR and RCA.
But if you want to be certain, i would recommend you send your units for service because there is very little we can do
from here without investigating your product.
Best regards
Christian
